EPR registration by country: a practical map

EPR is national, not EU-wide. The countries sellers ask about most, and the order to register them.

What EPR actually covers

Extended producer responsibility makes the party placing packaged goods or products on a national market responsible for end-of-life costs. The schemes are set up country by country.

Packaging is the most common obligation, but electricals, batteries, textiles, and furniture often have separate schemes.

Country notes

Germany requires LUCID registration and a system participation contract. France uses a UIN through ADEME plus an eco-organisation. Austria, Spain, and Italy have their own registers and schemes.

Norway applies producer responsibility through the EEA framework. The UK has its own packaging obligations. A registration in one country does not cover another.

Marketplace enforcement

Marketplaces increasingly require registration numbers before allowing listings. The number must match the selling entity, not a supplier or a service provider.

Missing or mismatched numbers are a common cause of listing blocks that look like technical errors.

The order to work in

List the countries where you actually sell, then the material categories you place on each market. Register in the highest-volume country first, and keep the proof in one place.

Do not buy registrations for countries you do not sell into. They add cost without reducing risk.

FAQ

Is EPR EU-wide?

No. It is implemented nationally, so separate registrations are generally required.

Do I need EPR if I only sell online?

Yes. Distance selling generally counts as placing the product on the national market.

Can a service provider register for me?

Providers can handle the process, but the registration should still match your legal entity.
