GPSR marketplace checklist: what platforms actually ask for

What platforms check first

Under GPSR, a consumer product sold in the EU needs a responsible person established in the EU, traceability information, and product safety information available to the buyer. Marketplaces translate that into a small set of fields they can verify.

They are not checking whether your product is good. They are checking whether the listing identifies who is accountable and how the product can be traced.

The four fields to prepare

Prepare the responsible person name and contact details, the manufacturer name and address, the importer name and address where applicable, and the safety warnings or instructions for the product.

Keep the underlying mandate and technical documentation. The listing fields are the surface; the documents are what authorities ask for later.

Where sellers get stuck

The most common failure is appointing a responsible person outside the EU, or using a contact address that nobody monitors. The second is a mismatch between the listing, the label, and the submitted documents.

A third is treating GPSR as a one-time upload. Responsibility details and product safety information need to stay current when the product or supplier changes.

A practical order of work

First classify the product and confirm which safety rules apply. Then appoint the responsible person and get the mandate in writing. Then update the label and the listing, and finally assemble the technical file.

Doing this in reverse, starting with the listing form, usually produces a file that cannot survive a document request.
